| 1st Company Veteran Committee meeting Minutes 25th Feb 2010 | 27/02/10 |
|---|---|
Present: Committee Members Matt Shaw, Richard Robinson, Scott Baird, Graham White, Paul Cook and Rob Henson Club Members Paul Welsh and Peter Harris Apologies: Darryl Steventon and Steve Cumming Items 1. Paul Welsh has been co-opted back onto the Committee in the role of Vice-Chairman; He will be responsible for liaising with Games Workshop, Club PR and maintaining the club CRB records. 2. The Club AGM has been set for 29th April 2010, a post is to appear on the forum and a newsletter generated to advertise the event. 3. It was decided that the issue of our GCN status was mute as Games Workshop have stated that membership is currently mandatory. 4. The issue of raising the Club minimum age limit to 18+ in order to avoid CRB checks is also mute as it would still be Games Workshop policy for all committee members to be CRB checked. CRB checks should be undertaken within one calendar month of appointment. Failure to comply would mean that the position on the Committee could not be taken up until the CRB check had been completed. 5. Matt gave a brief summary of where we are up to with regards to Open War XIII, the trophies have been sorted, lunch is booked, 56 tables have been booked and the Rules pack is now ready to be put on the website Tickets are due to go on sale on 19th March and have been held at £15. 6. Graham gave a brief overview of the Club’s finances. 7. The purchase of a Trophy and 3 medals has been approved for the current in House WFB Club Championship. 8. Rob will be working on setting up a similar tournament for 40K to commence in September. 9. The Games Day projects for 2010 have some new restrictions on them, it was felt that the proposed Wood Elf Wild Hunt project would not satisfy these conditions and has therefore had to be withdrawn. Similarly there is a doubt as to whether we can send our Historical project as it is not a core game system. The only possible project that might satisfy the conditions is the Orkynapolis Grot Bomber Squad game. Peter Harris gave a quick overview of what he and the team had in mind and has the full backing of the Committee subject to Games Workshop Approval. The budget for Games Day 2010 has been set at £150. 10. The Committee has approved the purchase of a set of 1st Company Veteran Shirts to be used for Events, Games Day, and Open War etc. The Shirts will be the property of the Club and will need to be returned duly laundered once used. 11. We have had a request from Games Workshop to write a 500 word piece promoting the club to appear as an article for White Dwarf. As Paul has been newly appointed to the role of PR he has been given the job of putting something together. 12. Games Workshop have also asked if we would be prepared to act as an advice line/help line /liaison for GCN Club Games Day projects based on the success of Orkynapolis. After a brief discussion it was felt that we couldn’t match the necessary requirements in terms of the resources, knowledge and time we have available, and have therefore declined the invitation. 13. It was agreed that Paul would cover Matt’s role as Club Chairman whilst he is on holiday. | |
| 1st Company Veterans AGM Thursday 29th April 2010 | 26/02/10 |
The Club AGM will take place at 8pm in the Gaming Hall on Thursday 29th April 2010. The Committee respectfully requests that all Club members suspend their games at this time in order to attend the meeting and vote for their choice of Committee members and any proposals. We will endeavour to keep the AGM as short and to the point as possible so as not to impact on your Games too much. Committee Elections There are 9 positions on the Committee as follows: 1. Club Chairman: Main duties include acting as the main contact for the club, main liaison with the Gaming Club Network, organize and chair committee meetings, as well as being the club leader. 2. Vice-Chairman: Main duties include being the main Liaison with Games Workshop, Club PR and maintenance of the Club’s CRB records 3. Treasurer: Main duties include the maintaining of the clubs finances and accounts, renewal of the Public Liability Insurance with GCN. 4. Web Technical Expert: Responsible for the technical control of the club website. 6. Tournament Co-coordinator: Lead organizer and contact for our Open War events. 7. 3 x General Committee Members: To help out with general overall running of the club as required. All Committee members will take it in turns to act as the main liaison person for the Club on Thursday nights. They will undertake this duty for one month before handing the role on to the next person. They will be responsible for dealing with new membership applications or membership renewals and must undertake a sweep of the hall at least once during the month to ensure that those people in attendance are actually Club members. Full support and training will be provided as necessary. On Club nights where they cannot attend they will be responsible for arranging cover with another Committee member. All Committee members must be CRB checked through the GCN and all paperwork needs to be completed within 1 calendar month of successful appointment to the Committee. Paul Welsh has been trained to do this on behalf of the GCN and will provide the necessary help and assistance as required. Any Club Member who wishes to put themselves forward should do so by contacting the Club Secretary in person or posting on the Club Forum under CLUB by 31st March. | |
| 1st Company Veterans & www.Ammobunker.org - Proud to be working together! | 03/10/09 |
The Ammobunker and the 1st Company Veterans. This year, Ammobunker did not take part in Games Day, the reasons for which are for another discussion, so I won’t go in to them here. For Ammobunker to take part again they looked into the possibility of starting up our own Gaming Club. However this wasn’t a very practical route to take due to Ammobunker being an online community first and foremost with members spread far and wide. However! Between Ammobunker and the 1st Company Veterans Gaming Club Committee, we have come up with a way forward. I am happy to announce that Ammobunker and the 1st Company Veterans have formed an affiliation; this will in future allow AB to take part in events such as GD under the umbrella of the 1CV but still under the AB name. In effect their participation in GD would appear just as last year with Ammobunker running their own tables under as much AB bunting as they would want (or could afford). This will have little impact on AB as a forum however, other than a notice on the Portal page informing people of the affiliation. Other than that AB will continue as before unchanged. I belive that Ammobunker is a great site, with lots to offer, and I hope that in the future, we can build on our relationship with joint events, offers etc... I can't recommend the Ammobunker site enough! | |
| Beginners WFB - The Autumn Challenge! | 02/10/09 |
| After speaking to several clubbers last night, I have come up with a cunning plan! There are now several of us, who after years of playing pretty much nothing but 40k, have decided to embark upon the route to madness that is WFB! Heres the plan: Between now and the 1st Thursday of November (which is Bonfire night no less), each participant needs to have at least 750 points built and at least undercoated, to start playing! So far we have: 1) - Darryl (that's me!) - Chaos Warriors 2) - Matt S. - Wood Elves 3) - Darrell Henson - Vampire Counts 4) - Gobbo - High Elves 5)- Rob Henson - Chaos Warriors (?) - TBA 6)- Studge - Dwarves (?) - TBA Whilst this is mainly meant for those who have played very little WFB, if you are a seasoned player, and want to start a new army, or just freshen up the one you have, please feel free to post! What we expect to see: At least a post on the thread in the Project Logs section (with or without photos) of what you want to play - and then a committment to meet the target! Let's get cracking! | |
| Gamesday 2010 - ideas! | 02/10/09 |
| Whilst Gamesday 2009 has just left the station, we're already thinking about next years! Last year saw a 40k themed table, and this year a historical table. This leads me to think (purely personally) that maybe for 2010 we should have as the main club table, with funding from the club, a WFB themed table! If you have an idea for a table, let one of the Committee bods know, and then we'll have a vote to find - 1st Co Vets GD Table 2010! HOWEVER! if you have a good idea for a different system, don't be shy! We can have more than one table for the club, but don't forget, funds may only be available in limited amounts! | |
| Help for Heroes | 14/09/09 |
| Dear All I have just received a letter from Help for Heroes (transcript) below. I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved, so thankyou to the members of 1st Company Veterans Gaming Club, all the competitors at Open Wars 10 & 11, the Open War Sub-Committee, the Club Committee and our colleagues at Games Workshop. Without you guys this achievement wouldn't have been possible, I'm proud of you all. As a new charity run on a largely voluntary basis withmost of our overheads covered by sponsorship, we ensure that your donation goes toward the cause rather into administrative overheads. Our first recovery centre, The Mark Wright GC House is now up and running and will provide a launch pad to life for all wounded service personnel. Our focus now turns to raising a further £20 million to build recovery centres in the Super Garrisons across the UK. | Minutes of Committee Meeting 20/08/09 | 21/08/09 |
| Present: Paul Welsh, Darryl Steventon, Graham White, Si Thorne, Rob Henson, Matt Shaw, Richard Robinson. Apologies: Scott Baird, Steve Cumming, Paul Cooke The following items were presented at the Committee meeting: 1. The Committee unaminously ratified the call for an Emergency General Meeting of the GCN in attempt to resolve some of the difficulties we (and other clubs) have encountered over the past 18 months or so. Copies of the proposal and Agenda can be obtained from the Club Chairman upon request in person. Paul Cooke supported the motion via email. 2. The Club has been approached by AmmoBunker with regard to becoming associate members of the 1st Company Veterans. A proposal was put forward that if they were to put together a Committee of 6 people who could be GCN CRB checked the Club would give free associate membership to Ammmobunker. Associate members do not recieve any Club member voting rights, may not stand for election to the 1st Company Veterans, preferential treatment for Open War Tickets or qualify for free Club events such as the Veterans Day (unless by invitation). The proposal was carried unaminously. 3. A proposal was made to upgrade one of our Open War Tournaments to a two day event, splitting the Gaming systems on to different days. The Committee felt that they are happy to keep Open War events as they are and the proposal was rejected unaminously. 4. A proposal was made to look into the possibility of having a third Club event, but rather than have another Tournament present a Campaign style event. The proposal was carried unaminously. An approach will be made to GW to see what is available. 5. The purchase of a special Battle mat for the Warmaster Napoleonics Gamesday project was ratified unaminously. The Battle mat has the advantage of being re-useable so may be used for future projects. | |

| Minutes of Committee Meeting 18/06/09 | 19/06/09 |
| Present: Committee: Paul Welsh, Paul Cooke, Scott Baird, Rob Henson, Richard Robinson, Matt Shaw & Graham White Club Members: Stuart Beardsmore Apologies Steve Cumming, Si Thorne & Darryl Steventon Bank Graham gave a quick overview of where we are up to with regards getting the signatories on the Club updated. Nat West have finally sent a copy of the current list to Richard who will forward on to Graham. Club Charity Paul and Graham to finalise the payment of the money raised to Help for Heroes. The nominated Charity for 2009/10 is the MacMillan Cancer Trust. Open War 12 (21/10/09) The Sub-Committee for Open War 12 will be Matt Shaw, Rob Henson, Darryl Steventon, Stuart Beardsmore, Scott Baird (Web) and Paul Welsh. The general concensus is that we will not be making any major changes to the rules pack, other than to look into the feasability of alternative missions for 40K and a revised system for scoring the painting/ best army . We are committed to hosting the YBBL finals which will be taking 6 tables out of our allowance at the event. Although we hope to have a small additional OW Bloodbowl tournament this will be subject to ratification once we have confirmed how many tables we have available (Paul to chase up with Andy Joyce). We have decided to hold the ticket price at £15 per head, subject to there being no significant increase in Food costs. Membership Renewals The price of membership is to be held at £10 for 2009/10. Membership renewals are due from 01/07/09. Paul will arrange to get a batch of blank membership cards printed along with a batch of membership renewal/ New membership forms. General Housekeeping The Committee will now take turns to be the 'Committee Member on Duty'. This will mean that they will be responsible for dealing with any queries, new members, getting the signing in Book completed (Paul to obtain a new signing in book) and enforcing the Club rules and ensuring the hall is tidied up at the end of the night etc. This will mean that for that night they will give up their gaming. The rota will come into effect from July 2nd 2009. If you are not available on any particular night it is your responsibility to arrange a swap with another Committee member. Paul will take the first duty on July 2nd and will issue the rota to committee members in the next few days. As a Club we have an obligation to be out of the hall by 10pm. To this end all gaming in the hall must cease at 9.30pm giving all club members 30 minutes to pack away their minatures and help tidy the hall. It is the Committee Member on Duty that has the responsibilty for enforcing these rules although they should be supported by all other Committee members. AoB We have had an approach from Corky about promoting his Independant GW Stockist business on the forum. It was agreed that we would allow him to have a Link on the forum in exactly the same way as we have done for Steve Wood. As he also asked about Club T-shirts Scott will also arrange to add the Link Steve Cumming set up for Club Merchandise. Club members who are interested will be able to sort themselves out. | |
| LIMITED SERVICE THURS JUNE 11th | 23/05/09 |

| AGM 2009 Minutes | 03/05/09 |
| COMMITTEE ELECTIONS CHAIRMAN Paul Welsh SECRETARY Darryl Steventon TREASURER Graham White COMMITTEE Rob Henson Matt Shaw Scott Baird Si Thorne Paul Cook Steve Cumming Richard Robinson Many thanks to all those that gave up their valuable time during the last 12 months to help run the club and to those who have volunteered to carry the mantle for the next 12. CHARITY NOMINATIONS Following our decision to make our Open War Tournaments charitable events we need to decide on our Charity for 2009/10. Last year we raised around £500 for Help for Heroes, so many thanks to all those people who made this possible or contributed to this worthwhile cause. This years nominations are: Help for Heroes The Royal British Legion Notts Air Ambulance Keep the Vulcan in the Sky. We will try to gather a little information on each charity, before we ballot the Club membership on their prefered choice. HOUSE KEEPING Could I remind all Club members that use of GW's magnificent gaming hall is a privilige not a right. I was personally embarrassed to receive two complaints from GW representatives over the lack of respect some members have being giving to our use of the hall. I will reiterate our responsibilities: 1. Please take care of all tables and scenery. DO NOT just dump unused scenery onto an unused table in a big pile. DO NOT keep your boxes and figure cases on the gaming tables., when not in use they should be stored out of the way under the table (don't block the access ways). 2. Please ensure that any drinks brought into the hall are in either plastic or paper cups. Glass should not be brought into the hall. Drinks should be those purchased on the premises although GW is relaxed about the use of bottled water or similar beverages. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should any Alcohol that hasn't been purchased from Bugmans bar be consumed on the premises. 3. It is every Club Members responsibility to ensure that all rubbish, cups etc are tidied away or correctly disposed of before we leave the hall. All scenery should be placed in a tidy and useable condition on all tables ready for other people to use. IT IS NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF GW STAFF TO CLEAR UP AFTER US. Please show a little pride. 4. Thursday Nights between 6pm and 10pm is for members of 1st Company Veterans Gaming Club and guests authorised by the Committee only. If you see any one new floating around please try to help them or pass them on to a Committee member. TOURNAMENTS Although we run our own Tournaments, as a Club we can enter other peoples Tournaments too. The Club may be able to help with transportation costs. If you want to raise a 1st Company Veterans Team for any given event and you are prepared to Organise it, we will give as much support as we can. VETERANS DAY SUNDAY 24th MAY We have 25 tables available with a combination of participation games, demonstration games and free gaming available. The event is FREE for all club members and will include lunch. If you are interested in attending please let me know by 14th May at the latest (so I can pre-order the food). Paul Welsh | |

| Newsletter august 2008 | 15/08/08 |
1st Company Veterans Newsletter August 2008 Club Rules It is a shame that I have to begin this Newsletter by having a bitch at the vast majority of you for not following Club rules. This is supposed to be an Adult club so can we please make sure we act like one. The main Rule Breach’s are as follows: 1. Failing to sign in. It’s not difficult, you know where the signing in book is, this is supposed to be a requirement for being able to use the hall. I’m trying to think of a polite way to put this, but I can’t, so for **** sake just do it OK! 2. Showing complete disrespect and disregard for the tables and scenery that GW so kindly supply us with. You’ve all been told before to keep your boxes, figure cases etc off the tables, this is a simple request so please just do as asked. Equally unwanted scenery must not just be dumped on a free table, please store said items carefully beneath your table until you have finished your game and then put the scenery back in an appropriate and useable manner. 3. Glass is not allowed in the hall, if you need a drink please make sure that it is the appropriate plastic or paper container. 4. It is the responsibility of EVERY club member to ensure that the hall and tables are tidy and ready to use when you leave, there have been times that the place has been left as a right s***hole. Come on guys get your act together! 5. Membership Renewals, in order to play on a Thursday night between 6pm and 10pm you MUST be a member of 1st Company Veterans Gaming Club. During this time our Club rules must be obeyed. Although GW staff have honorary membership you are still subject to the club’s rules. If you haven’t renewed your membership please do so ASAP. 6. Guests, other than GW staff, Guests must be signed in by a Member of the Committee. For those of you who don’t know who they are here are their names:  Darryl Steventon (Club Chairman)  Paul Welsh (Club Secretary)  Peter Harris (Club Treasurer)  Matt Shaw (Tournament Co-ordinator)  Si Thorne (Asst. Tournament Organiser)  Stuart Beardsmore (Club Caretaker)  Steve Cummings (Club PR and Special Projects Co-ordinator)  Scott Baird (Web Technical Guy)  Richard Robinson (Web Content guy) Failure to comply with club rules could result in your membership being suspended or in a worst case scenario withdrawn. Please don’t let this happen to you. OK unpleasant bit over. Open War 10 Twice a year this Club plays host to a tournament in several gaming systems. This is your opportunity to pit your skills against players from other parts of the country, some of whom are regarding as the leading players in their chosen system. The next Open War takes place on Saturday 18th October 2008. This year we are operating 5 gaming systems:  Warhammer Fantasy Battle  Warhammer 40K  Epic  Bloodbowl  Warhammer Ancients This is your tournament guys, and I’d strongly urge you to support the event to uphold the honour of this club. Tickets are £15 each which includes lunch (which is a hot meal & Dessert). You will take part in 3 games throughout the course of the day, and there are prizes available for both Generalship and painting. The winners of the Team event get to choose a charity to make a donation to. So come on, sign up for a great day out and a good challenge. Tickets can be obtained via the website www.1stcompanyveterans.net or from Matt Shaw (or nominated committee member) on a Thursday night. In House Apocalypse Challenge There will be a full in house Apocalypse tournament beginning in April 2009, using 4000pts Armies. You can enter as an individual or with a partner. We will be having a dry run to test the rules starting in October for which I need 8 entrants. Any volunteers please see either Si Thorne or myself. Warhammer Historical: Great War Darryl Steventon and myself had our first taste of this on 14/08/08 and thoroughly enjoyed it. If anyone else is into this game, or would like to be, let us know we’d love to play you. | Updated rules for the Website! | 20/06/08 |
| This website is the internet home of the First Company Veterans, and, like any home, we have a simple set of rules that we would like everyone to follow, to make it the best possible place to be! 1) Personal Behaviour - Do not post any message that is deliberately offensive or insulting except when it can clearly be taken in nature as humorous and in the context of the conversation - think first - if you think the person you are talking to may read your post as offensive or aggressive, or that someone else may misread it as being so, either reword it or do not post it at all. Please avoid abusive language and swearing, Even though the club itself operates an over 16's policy, it is impossible to enforce that here. Any clear violations of this will be dealt with swiftly. - Bullying, homophobia, racism and religious hatred will NOT be tolerated and are the quickest way of ensuring that you are expelled from the forum. - Do not use the forum as a means to attack others (whether member or non-member) or other websites, manufacturers and forums. Discussion is encouraged, using the forum to rant and rave will not. - Personal attacks, or attacks on friends of another member are NOT allowed. Anything which is likely to cause offence, be it abusive, malicious, vulgar, defamatory, hateful, seditious, blasphemous, racist or sexually orientated will be deleted by the Committee and appropriate action taken against the offending member. Remember, we are ALL friends here. - Members must not engage in one-to-one arguments, disagreements or disputes of a personal nature. 2) Threads - When starting a new thread please check you are starting it in the correct area of the forum and that a thread covering the same topic has not already been started. - New threads should be given a title that is relevant to the thread topic. If you want people to know what you are posting about, tell them! Posting - Posts should be clear and understandable to all - no ‘txt speak’ or shorthand that might confuse or be misinterpreted. Please remember that we have members from around the globe who may struggle with hard to read postings. - Do not post pointless and irrelevant spam. Banter, humorous comments etc are encouraged but making posts simply to get your name on the board, elevate your thread or to raise your post count will be frowned upon and these posts will be removed. Please avoid thread necromancy and flaming. - When replying within a Project Log Thread, please limit the use of short "Great work man" type messages. They can appear to be spam as identified above or can sometimes just appear "lazy" and "routine". It is good to enthuse and bolster peoples work, but please be a little more considered and forthcoming. Of particular note, these short messages cost us space! - Criticism is fine as long as it is constructive; do not simply state you do not like something or that someone’s ideas are stupid. If you want to comment do it politely and explain your reasoning. Remember, this forum exists for everyone - we're not all walking encylopedias for the rules of the game, or 'Eavy Metal grade painters! Please avoid violation of copyright or intellectual property. (including posting stat lines or rules quoted directly from rule books.) Please do not download copyrighted material into the forum. If you are replying to a rules query, please quote the book and page number on which the rule can be found, and by all means explain what the rule means in your opinion, but please, to stop us falling foul of Copyright law, DO NOT quote word for word the rule! - Once you have posted, and you wish to change or add something to your post, use the EDIT button. Please use it to delete double posts. If you have posted your thread in the wrong forum, please ask a committee member to move it. - Do not post material that contains adult content, or links to sites that have adult content. This site is viewable by all, and as such adult content will not be tolerated - as a rule of thumb, if you would not be able to look at something at work, don't post it here! 3) Moderation - Failure to abide by these simple rules may result in censure or in extreme cases, expulsion from this Forum and the Club. - The Committee reserve the right to edit, relocate or remove any topics / posts / images we deem inappropriate or disruptive to our community. Please note that, from time to time, topics may be removed for being inappropriate even though your individual post in that topic may have been fine. Please do not feel this reflects badly on you. Occasionally, information in certain topics can become outdated or contravenes our code of conduct and is best removed. This will only be done when every other avenue of action has been taken. Overall, please remember that this website is done 'By the members for the Members'! Many thanks, Darryl Steventon Club Chairman 2008/09 | |

| Newsletter April 2008 | 11/04/08 |
| 1st Company Veterans Newsletter April 2008 AGM 10/04/08 Committee Elections: CLUB CHAIRMAN: Darryl Steventon CLUB SECRETARY: Paul Welsh CLUB TREASURER: Peter Harris TOURNAMENT CO-ORDINATOR: Matthew Shaw TOURNAMENT ORGANISER: Si Thorne PR & SPECIAL PROJECTS GUY: Steve Cumming CLUB CARETAKER: Stuart Beardsmore WEB TECHNICAL GUY: Scott Baird WEB CONTENT GUY: Richard Robinson All were elected uncontested. Peter Harris gave a brief overview of the Clubs finances. Paul Welsh gave a quick overview of the Club and reiterated the current club rules when using the gaming hall. Proposal Vote Results: PROPOSAL 1: Future expenditures in excess of £50 to be sanctioned by the Committee provided at least 6 of the 9 Committee members agree. Carried. PROPOSAL 2A To invest in scenery for gaming systems that GW don’t appear to cater for. E,g. Epic, Warhammer Ancients etc. Carried PROPOSAL 2B To purchase basic starter kits for various gaming systems for members to try out games before investing in their own figures etc. Rejected AOB Mark Lees proposed that we contact GW to try and arrange a Club charity event. The idea suggested is that with GW’s support we’d like to hold a 25 hour sponsored gaming marathon to raise funds for a local charity. Members gave this overwhelming backing, an approach to GW to be made by the Committee ASAP. Darryl Steventon gave a brief overview of Open War 9 and some discussion took place as to how we would like events to progress in future given that space is now restricted. It was agreed that as a Club we would like to support the Gaming systems enjoyed by our Club members more. For Open War 10 the club has committed to introducing Warhammer Ancients as one of the gaming systems. The Tournament Co-ordinator will also contact the GW events team to see if we can a) increase the capacity from 80 at all and b) introduce Bloodbowl as a satillite event, e.g. using Bugmans Bar or the Conference Room facilities. The club was asked about the feasibility of a Trade account with GW to obtain discounted models. At the moment it is not GW policy to offer gaming clubs discounts, although the GCN (to whom 1st Company Veterans are affiliated) have been looking at negotiating with GW on this subject. SPRING TOURNAMENTS The Spring Tournaments are progressing nicely. Rob Henson has won the Bloodbowl event and Phil Rood won Aeronautica Imperialaris. The results for WFB, 40K and Ancients will be completed soon, with Epic and Legends of the Old West to follow. April 5th saw Open War 9 with the club doing well in Epic and moderate in 40K, we didn’t trouble the leaders in WFB. As a result Flame On retained the team trophy, with the Dragon Slayers relegating us to 3rd place. | |
| AGM 10/04/08 | 11/03/08 |
| The club AGM will be held in the main gaming hall from 9pm on 10/04/08. On this night you will need to start winding your games up at around 8:45pm. 1st Company Veterans AGM Agenda 10/04/08 * Introduction (Darryl Steventon on behalf of Steve Watson) * Club review (Paul Welsh) * Treasurery Statement (Peter Harris on behalf of Richard Robinson) * Committee Elections 1. Club Chairman: Darryl Steventon is elected unopposed. 2. Club Secretary: Paul Welsh (subject to taking 13 weeks out) 3. Club Treasurer: Peter Harris is elected unopposed 4. Web Technical Guy: Scott Baird is elected unopposed 5. Web Content Guy: Richard Robinson is elected unopposed. 6. Tournament Co-ordinator: Matthew Shaw is elected unopposed. 7. Tournament Organiser: Si Thorne is elected unopposed. 8. Club Caretaker: Stuart Beardsmore is elected unopposed. 9. Club PR : Steve Cummings is elected unopposed. * Proposals (Chairman) Each proposal will require a second to the motion. 1. Allocating funds to special Club projects such as Gamesday. Under the current club rules we need the membership to approve purchases over £50. Proposal 1 is to change this rule so that the Club committee can approve purchases over this amount providing at least 6 of the 9 Committee members agree. 2. More support for all Gaming systems. As a club we have sufficient funds to give support to some of the less widely played gaming systems. Proposal 2a is to purchase appropriate scenery for such gaming systems as Epic, Warhammer ancients, Aeronautica Imperialaris, Legends of the Old West/High Seas etc. Proposal 2b is for the club to purchase some basic starter sets so that club members can try various gaming systems out before making the heavy investment often required to embark on a new gaming system. Under proposals 2a & 2b items will be signed out on loan to club members. * AoB & Close Club Review 2008 When the current committee came together in May 2007, Games Workshop had charged us with achieving certain goals for the club. Firstly they required us to become a Club, rather than groups of individuals meeting in their gaming Hall. Gathering everyone into one Club has been a mammoth task but we think the results have been worth it. Seeing virtually every gaming table in use each and every Thursday night is a wonderful sight. With a membership that has increased over 4 fold to over 120 members 1st Company Veterans is now the biggest single club within the GCN. A membership card and signing in system have been implemented; granted there have been a few initial teething problems with issuing the membership cards, but we are getting there. Special thanks must go to Richard Robinson, Darryl Steventon, Stuart Beardsmore and Peter Harris for all the help they have given me to get this off the ground. Information sheets and Quarterly newsletters have also been implemented, if there are items you want to raise let us know and we’ll do our best to promote your thoughts. Our relationship with both GW and the GCN has grown from strength to strength, as the club has become more proactive in it’s support of the hobby. Thanks must go to Brian Aderson and the Games Workshop events team for all the terrific support they have given this club over the past year. This year will see 1st Company Veterans promoting the hobby, GW and the GCN at Gamesday with the Ork Battlewagon Racing project run by Pete Harris and friends. CRB checks are still available free of charge through GCN, members interested in getting a CRB check just need to contact a committee member and we will endeavour to arrange for a GCN Committee member to sort this out for you. Scott Baird, with help from Richard Robinson, is continuing to work on updating the Club web site. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, visit www.1stcompanyveterans.net for articles, arranging a game, hobby related chat and news. We are running more in house tournaments with 40K, Bloodbowl and Aeronautica Imperialaris having featured recently. The new Spring Tournaments are underway which also include WFB and Epic. As a club we would like to encourage more events particularly for Warhammer Ancients and Legends players. Open War continues to do well and is a well-respected tournament throughout the gaming community. The advent of Apocalypse has seen some interesting projects; November saw a massive 15000pts aside Tyrranid vs. Imperials battle organised by Si Thorne, with every single figure having been painted. It was so successful that the next project has been booked for August 9th 2008 and is set to be even bigger, with additional special rules, conversions and the like with a Chaos vs. Imperial confrontation spread across 4 battlefields. Steve Cummings, Mick and Phil Rood and friends have been working on a Warhammer Ancients Napoleonics system. Anyone who saw their fantastic recreation of the battle of Waterloo couldn’t fail but to be mightily impressed. This Committee has made great strides on building on the foundations laid by it’s predecessors, hopefully the incoming committee can take up the baton and carry this success on. A number of Committee members have decided to stand down this year due to other commitments. Many thanks go to Steve Watson, Scott Bennett, Graham White and Scott Warrener for their efforts in helping to manage this club over the past 10 months or so. Finally to each and every Club member, thank you for your support to this club, without you Thursdays would be dull days indeed. Paul Welsh Club Secretary | |

| 40K Chaos players required for mega Apocalypse Battle | 28/12/07 |
| As per Si's thread on the forum, players are required to take part in a mega Apocalypse battle which is scheduled for September 2008. Yes we know it's 9 months away, but this gives budding enthusiasts the opportunity to build, paint and test out a full 3000pt Army ready for the main event. Comprehensive details of all the rules etc will be available in due course, the main rule at present is to have a 3000pt fully painted Chaos or Imperial (Imperial Guard, Space Marines, Witch Hunters or Daemon Hunters) force. For now we are looking for volunteers to play the Chaos side, depending on the number of people who join up, we may have some more slots on the Imperium side too. Anyone interested should post on this forum or let either Si or myself know on a gaming night. Cheers Gobbo Club Secretary | |
| Web Technical Guy | 15/12/07 |

| Aeronautica Imperialaris Tournament 21/02/08 | 15/12/07 |
| The date is set for the inaugral Sqwadron cup for Aeronautica Imperialaris. Following on from the conclusion of Bloodbowl (and deftly sidestepping St Valentines day) Thursday 21st of February 2008 has been selected. The tournament is open to 1st Company Veterans club members and invited guests and is basically a fun introduction to this gaming system. Forces are to be restricted to 60pts worth of Fighter Aircraft only, depending on what you choose you'll be looking at between 2 and 5 Aircraft. We'll be using the basic Dogfighting rules, but rather than having one on one battles, the games will be multi-player free for alls. Depending upon the number of entrants there will be 2 initial battles with 4 players per game (give or take). After the first two Dogfights the 3 players with the highest score plus 1 wildcard (drawn at random from the rest of the entrants) will fight the final battle, the winner of the Sqwadron Cup will be the winner of this final Dogfight (so whatever went before counts for nothing). And yes there will be a trophy which will incorporate Forgeworlds Ork Sqwadron leader. Any one interested in taking part should either let me know via the forum or grab hold of me on Club nights. For those who haven't played before I'm looking to run a few practice games in January. Paul aka Gobbo 1st Company Veterans Club Secretary | |

First off there will be a campaign - a tree campaign out of the storm of chaos book - TREE 2, page 75. It will last either 4 or possibly 5 weeks, depending on which branches are taken. I'm just going to pair or as close to as I can everyone who wants a games (maybe two if they are small games etc) and then total the points, victories and determine which branch to follow. Not rocket science. Also try to get a little story from each game to write up! Therefore any size force can play and it does not matter if anyone can't make each week. Obviously the Good will be paired off against the Evil. | |
| Club AGM | 21/05/04 |
| The club AGM will be held on June the 10th in Bugmans Bar at 9pm, with the bar open for as long as we need, up until 11pm (we'll probably finish before that, but can stay on drinking there, rather than go up the road as usual). We all typically start our games at 7pm....so all that will be required is for one week that you start your games a little earlier if possible and play at a brisk-ish pace (would be good if you could avoid arranging any mammoth, 4,000 point games that week too....!!).
Do not fear, this is not a dry, boring meeting.........what we need to do as a club is: 1 -Review our activities to date 2 - Decide on what we as a club want to do with the time WW gives us (see debates on gaming seasons) 3 - Check Chris hasn't been fiddling the books. 4 - AND MOST IMPORTANTLY - find new and willing volunteers to help out on the committee. There will be specific positions up for grabs (details to follow later), or you can sign up to be a general committee member, and help out wherever you can/want to. The club will only be able to continue if we get willing volunteers to actually do things.....we can have all the ideas in the world to improve the club, but we need people to do actually get things moving. There will soon be information about the meeting appearing here. | |

| 40k Grand Tournament Final Report | 09/03/04 |
| A number of us where at this event over the weekend. Well done too Chris Taylor the highest placed Veteran who finished 7th overall and was the 4th Best General with his Necron horde out of 149 entrants. Also placed towards the top were Andy Garrard (28) James Dachtler (38) and Scott Baird (40). Scott did very well on his second day after his Shooty Chaos Undivided army was butchered in 2 turns without firing a shot by a fully infiltrating Kroot Mercenary Army. NASTY. Chris is now hoping to defend his Best Veteran record at our Open War Tournament next month. | |

| Opening Night | 09/01/04 |
| Thank you to everyone who turned up - the veterans club is up and running officially. For those who have already paid their club membership for the year thank you very much. For the rest of the members who came along the first week was free but to sample and play on the Warhammer World tables & all the great scenery it will cost ?10 to join for one year, this works out to be about 20 pence per week (19.2p to be exact). This money is to cover the expenses only of running the club, as members at the next committee meeting you get a say as to how this money is spent. (See the club rules for more details) To any new members - feel free to come along your first week is free - most Games Workshop games are played (40K, WFB, LOTR) by someone somewhere in the room every week. This includes the specialist games range (Bloodbowl, Epic, BFG & Warmaster mainly) Thanks for reading this and long may the club continue. Chris Taylor (Treasurer) | |
